Join us for our CV2 Prep event on Saturday, March 26 at 12:55 pm by registering here (bcwriters.ca/events-for-writers) and a Zoom link for the event will be sent to you. When it’s time for the event you can click on the Zoom link to join the event.

CV2 (Contemporary Verse 2) is an annual contest that challenges you to write an original poem in 48 hours — with only one catch. The final poem must include ten words provided by the organizers.

NOTE: CV2 is not a Federation of BC Writers event, but many of our members take part.

Join poet Heidi Greco and Cristy Watson, who are long-time contestants of the CV2 2-Day Poem Contest, as they offer advice on how to prepare for the contest, how to sustain creative momentum during the contest, and how to edit the final poem for submission when the 48 hours are up. They will also read their winning entries from previous years.

Deadline to register for the CV2, 2-day-poem contest is April 15th , and you can sign up here for the contest which will be held April 22-24th, 2022 (which also falls on Earth Day). https://contemporaryverse2.ca/2-day-poem-contest/

Emilie Derkson-Poirier joined the CV2 team in 2018 as managing editor and reviews editor. She also works in communications at APTN and holds a BA (Hons) in Sociology from the University of Winnipeg. She lives and works on Treaty 1 territory.

Heidi Greco’s publications cover many genres—from poetry, book reviews and fiction through, most recently, 2021’s light-hearted critique of the beloved film, Harold and Maude. In 2018 she edited From the Heart of It All, an anthology of work from writers who live on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. She is known for her actions as a literary activist and also as a protector of the environment. She’s led workshops across the province and beyond, on topics ranging from writing ekphrastic and nature-based poems to making chapbooks or dealing with the complicated task of self-editing. More information can be found at her website, heidigreco.ca

Yelani Peiris is a Sri Lankan poet and content marketer based in Winnipeg, Canada. She holds a BA (Hons) in English from the University of Manitoba. Yelani's hobbies include running a fashion blog, speed reading audiobooks and arguing with her dog, Leela, while on Zoom calls. She has been working with CV2 as a board member since 2020 and recently joined as first reader on staff. This is her second year co-captaining the CV2 2 Day Poem Contest.

Cristy Watson is passionate about the literary arts and in the past decade has interacted with authors and readers in many ways: as a volunteer host of a monthly Open Mic for new and published authors in her community, by offering writing workshops to writers of all ages, and through her time mentoring authors on all aspects of the writing process. Each year in October she can be found introducing authors, supporting writers, and ensuring workshops run smoothly as a volunteer with the Surrey International Writer’s Conference. She is the award-winning author of eight published MG/YA novels with two trade publishers, and her poems have appeared in Spotlight on the Arts, CV2 Magazine, The Poetry Marathon Anthology, and the forthcoming anthology, Worth More Standing, Caitlin Press. She loves to enter contests, particularly ones with a tight time limit. Please consider following her at Cristy Watson Author,Twitter, Facebook, and on Goodreads.
