Since 2010, Wendy has worked with school districts and other agencies on The Elder Project. She works with mainly First Nations and Inuit students. She trains them as poets, then she supervises their interviews with their Elders. These interviews are then turned into poems. The poems and the photographs of the students and the Elders are then published in a book to be used in the school districts. Wendy has completed thirteen Elder Project books. Wendy has recently been working with the Federation of British Columbia Writers to produce and continue Elder Projects.
The first Elder Project completed with the FBCW was Haahuupayak, in Port Alberni:
Following that, in 2016, was Every Word Has a Spirit, seen here:
A similar project is the “Who We Are” project, a book project created by youth on either side of cultural divides.
