Barbara Drozdowich, Southwest Rep for the Federation of BC Writers, was ‘doing a happy dance all morning’ Jan. 8 after learning she had made the 2018 Write Life’s top 100 list of the best websites for writers.
Not only that, but her Bakerview Consulting blog, which ‘tutors authors in the technology they need to build a platform through social media’, landed at the top of the Marketing and Platform Building category on Write Life’s list.
The placement won’t come as a surprise to many people who have worked with Barb to get their social media platforms and web sites up and running. ‘Helping authors, one at a time,’ is the Bakerview Consulting tagline, and Barb takes it seriously. “I believe that authors need a social media platform to succeed in today’s ever changing world of selling books,” she said.
Says Toronto based Author Patricia Sands of Barb’s services, “I frequently refer to Barb Drozdowich as the ‘guru’ of information for bloggers and authors. Through her numerous books, podcasts, and live presentations, she helps us all become more successful in our writing and promoting endeavours.”
Barb has been a blogger since 2008 and a book blogger since 2010. Before that careers in teaching science and managing a technical training department with a B.C. credit union prepped her to be a consultant and coach to writers wanting to boost their online presence.
“My background in teaching and technology had me more comfortable with blogs, social media and the various applications that authors use than most,” she said. “I now spend my days teaching authors how to blog, how to manage their social media accounts, how to communicate with readers, how to manage mailing lists and newsletters. If it involves technology and authors, that’s my world.”
Look for an item by Barb in an upcoming edition of FBCW’s Word Works magazine, where she will talk about the importance of lists like Write LIfe’s, and why writers need to pay attention to social media and web sites, if they want to reach 21st Century readers.
