Launch of Tofino novelist David Floody’s new YA novel, The Colour of Pride.
In July of 1967, while attending the University of Windsor, David Floody watched from the Canadian shores of the Detroit River as the fires of racial hatred consumed the Motor City in a five-day riot. The Detroit he knew so well - where he saw Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Diana Ross and The Supremes, watched the play of the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers - was wreathed in a pall black smoke whipped into whirlwinds by Huey helicopter gunships above the sounds of machine gun fire and the sirens of fire engines and emergency vehicles. It was the most disturbing five days of his life and inspired The Colour of Pride.Storyline: A year after the 1967 Detroit race riot, white Canadian teen ballplayer, Frank Phelan, befriends and defends black teen ballplayer, Ellie Fitzgerald, from a racist bully and mounting prejudice at the 1968 World Series, while both strive get the autograph of their baseball idol, Al Kaline.Availability: The novel is available as paperback and ebook from Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
