The Federation of British Columbia (BC) Writers is pleased to announce the six finalists for the 4th annual short story contest BC-Yukon Short 2020. The creative fiction contest opened on April 1st and closed April 30th.

“This is a pretty big deal for us. For the first time, we extend our annual contest to the Yukon, giving us a new opportunity to showcase writing talent from both areas. Our judge, Eileen Cook, was very impressed with the quality and strength of all the works submitted,” Acting Executive Director, Andrea Guldin said.

Congratulations to our six finalists, in alphabetical order:

    Brian Douglas (Richmond) – “Forsaken”

Edythe Anstey Hanen (Bowen Island) – “When We Had Wings”

Wiley Ho (North Vancouver) – “Masquerade”

Anne Hopkinson (Victoria) – “Scale Mail”

Sharon McInnes (Cumberland) – “The Neighbour”

Janet Smith (Campbell River) – “The Yawning Tree”

Sponsored by the Federation of BC Writers, the BC/Yukon Short 2020 is an annual competition for original, unpublished short stories by BC and Yukon writers. This year was the 4th annual contest, and the 1st year with the inclusion of the Yukon. We are very pleased to have author Eileen Cook (eileencook.com) as the judge.

The winning entry will be announced May 31. First prize is $350 and a year’s Federation of BC Writers membership. The winning entry will be published in WordWorks 2020 #2, the flagship magazine of the Federation of BC Writers.

The ad sales rep earns 25% net commission on all paid advertising, payable within 30 days after invoice.

If you're interested in supplementing your income with flexible, work from home hours, and interested in developing and nurturing relationships with BC's literary and publishing community, while growing our advertising base, please contact WordWorks managing editor Ursula Vaira at editor.wordworks@gmail.com.
