Whistler Readers & Writers Festival

The Whistler Readers and Writers Festival –
October 18-20, 2013

For newsletter #3, the team at the W.R.W.F. wanted to highlight some of the workshops that are going on over the event weekend. From memoir writing, to the future of the magazine industry, and how to revise your work – there’s a lot to choose from. Here’s just a glimpse of what’s on offer…

So, you want to be a magazine writer. Really?
Leslie Anthony explores magazine writing in the information age, and how to approach a milieu in flux. Participants will learn that breaking into magazines might all be about breaking out.

Memoir Writing: Where to begin?
Memoirist Jane Silcott takes participants on a light-hearted and serious, pen-on-the-page workshop that will help writers find the clues they’re looking for when exploring the memoir genre.

A Better Way to Revise
Peter Zuckerman will look at everything, from the first draft to the final product, in an attempt to find the weakness in participants’ manuscripts and how to fix them.

Under the Canada Writes Tent on Sunday Oct 29, Harvey will be talking about her book, Nicolai’s Daughters, at 3pm, and Sara Leach, the award-winning author of four books for children, including the Red Cedar Award-winning Count Me In, at 3:20pm in the Children’s Library.

Blog: Shit and Summer Dresses by Feet Banks
In the gear up to the festival we ask local writers and the visiting authors to put pen to paper for our blog page. Feet Banks’ post takes us back in time to his poetry classes during University, and the distractions he faced there. Read more here.
