Mona Fertig

Mona Fertig was born in Vancouver. She is a poet, publisher, book artist and literary organizer. She has been deeply involved in the Vancouver/BC literary scene since she was a teenager. She has published many books and chapbooks and is a founding member of The Federation of BC Writers, The Feminist Caucus of the League of Canadian Poets and was the BC Rep of P.E.N. Canada and BC/Yukon Rep of The Writers’ Union of Canada and has sat on many juries. In 1978 at age 24, she started the first literary centre in Canada, the legendary Literary Storefront in Gastown, Vancouver. It ran for till 1985 and had 500 members at its peak. Since 1990 she has lived on Salt Spring Island with her husband, Peter Haase, and runs Mother Tongue Publishing ( formerly (m)Other Tongue Press) a literary and art publishing house.
