Jodie Renner is a sought-after freelance fiction editor, award-winning author of editor’s guides to writing compelling fiction, writing craft workshop presenter, and well-known blogger. Her craft-of-writing articles and other resources for writers appear on many blogs, including the award-winning The Kill Zone, Fiction University, and her own blog, Resources for Writers.
Jodie has had a lifelong passion for reading, especially fiction. She has had a variety of life experiences and worked at a lot of different jobs before she became an English and French teacher and, later, a school librarian, and also attained her master’s degree (UWO). Somewhere in there, she raised two sons, travelled to a lot of different countries and cities, and moved across Canada – twice. Raised in BC, she attended both UBC and SFU, then moved to Ontario at the age of 32, but is thrilled to be back in BC and living in Kelowna – soon to move to Penticton.
When she’s not editing, writing, or reading novels or guides to writing compelling fiction, Jodie loves to pursue her two other passions, photography and travelling. She has travelled extensively throughout North America, Europe and the Middle East, and continues to sneak away whenever she gets the chance.
Jodie Renner is the award-winning author of three craft-of-writing guides and two (so far) resources for writers. Fire up Your Fiction, which offers concrete tips for writers to tighten their prose and take their skills up several levels, has won 3 awards (2 silver medals – Readers’ Favorite Awards and FAPA President’s Book Awards – and an Honorable Mention in Writer’s Digest E-Book Awards). Jodie’s Writing a Killer Thriller is also valued by fiction writers of all genres who want to engage readers by adding tension, suspense, and intrigue to their novel. Jodie’s third book in the series, Captivate Your Readers, just out, is all about engaging readers through techniques such as using deep point of view, showing instead of telling, avoiding author intrusions, writing riveting dialogue, and basically stepping back and letting the characters drive the story.
