PROPOSED MOTIONS FOR THE FEDERATION OF BC WRITERS AGM

The following draft motions are being considered for discussion and approval by the membership at the Federation of BC Writers’ Annual General Meeting in Summerland, May 23, 2015. 1. Budget and Priorities for 2015-2016
That the Federation of BC Writers make Reaching Out to the Regions a high priority in the coming year, and that by Jaunuary, 2016 a stratagy be developed and approved by the Board through consultation with the regions.
That the Board incur a planned deficit of up to $6.000 – out of reserves, not borrowing – as an investment in the future.
2. Special Membership Categories
That two new, non-voting, membership categories be created for the Federation of BC Writers:
Associate Membership – An associate member will be a business or organization, which is involved in the writing or publishing industry or the arts and has a direct interest in the development and well-being of writers. The cost of an Associate Membership will be the same as a regular membership, and will entitle the Associate Member to most of the benefits available to other members.
Community Membership – A community member will be a non-profit organization, which is involved in the writing or publishing industry and has a direct interest in the development and well-being of writers. Community Memberships will be free, and will entitle the Community Member to most of the benefits available to other members.
That Associate and Community memberships have to be approved by the Board. A report and list of Associate and Community members be presented to the Board each year, and the list publicly posted on the Federation of BC Writers web site.
3. Structure of the Board of Directors
That the following Directorships will be included on the Federation of BC Writers Board, and that one of the top priorities of the Board be to ensure these Directorships are filled:
Regional Directors for: The North, Central, Southeast, Fraser Valley, Sunshine Coast, Lower Mainland, and Vancouver Island
- Finance Committee (Chaired by the Treasurer)
- Membership Committee (Chaired by either the President, Vice President or Past President)
- Programs & Events Committee (Chaired by either the President, Vice President or Past President)
4. Reaffirmation of Two-Year Terms for Directors
Directors of the Federation of BC Writers’ Board who are voted into office at an Annual General Meeting are eligible to sit for two-year terms. Any appointments to the Board made between Annual General Meetings must be ratified at the next AGM.
5. Nominations for Board of Directors for 2015-2016
Nominations for Directorships are open, and the following members have indicated they will stand for election at the AGM:
